About First3Years
First3Years, formerly Texas Association for Infant Mental Health (TAIMH), began in 1980 as a group of volunteers in the infant mental health field who were concerned about the quality of care for infants and toddlers both inside and outside the home. The founders wanted to create high quality training and education opportunities for professionals whose work impacts the emotional development of infants, toddlers, and their families.
In 1986, First3Years was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization, and over the past 35 years we have trained and mentored thousands of professionals across the state on brain development, attachment, separation, trauma, self regulation, cross-cultural awareness, and other infant mental health related issues. We believe that supporting the social emotional development of infants and toddlers is critical for helping the next generation be healthy, productive members of society.
First3Years – Houston is an affiliate chapter of First3Years-Texas and is dedicated to supporting the healthy emotional development of infants, toddlers, and their families. First3Years – Houston is a local organization whose mission is to increase awareness of the critical importance of the first three years of life, support conditions that enhance the quality of infant and toddler/caregiver relationships, advocate for policies and practices that support the healthy development of young children, and educate the birth-to-three workforce in best practices.

Membership in First3Years – Houstonis open to parents, other family members and professionals who impact the lives of children. Those professionals include social workers, pediatricians, early interventionists, lawyers and judges, researchers, child advocates, foster parents, therapists, child care providers, nurses, educators, psychologists and psychiatrists, child life specialists, and others.
In addition to participating in First 3 Years committees, receiving the quarterly newsletter and participation in First 3 Years events, members may join the World Association for Infant Mental Health (www.waimh.org). WAIMH members receive its newsletter, The Signal, and the Infant Mental Health Journal, and can access the WAIMH video library and join the WAIMH listserv to facilitate communication among members worldwide.

Membership Levels:
$15 Student Membership: First3Years Student Membership includes all benefits of standard membership. Copy of student I.D. required.
$65 Membership: First3Years membership includes all member benefits and discounts. Ten percent is directed to your local chapter for chapter activities.

$500 Agency: First3Years membership for 11-25 members.
$900 Agency: First3Years membership for 26-50 members.
